My mother emailed me a summary of an archived article on the Boston Globe– the email subject was “lottare“. I bought the full copy for about $3. The article details the events that were going on when I was about a year and a half old. SNRZ was born a week and a bit after the article was written. It’s quite short and lacking a lot of information, but it is a strange peek back into events now almost two decades past.

Article Text:

ROME — China will grant an exit visa to a former diplomat whose pregnant Italian wife has been staging a protest in a camper outside the Chinese Embassy, a diplomatic counseler said yesterday. Patrizia Riccardi has been been living in the camper for more than a week to try to induce Chinese authorities to give a visa to Zhu Juwang, who quit his post at the United Nations in Geneva. China contends that Zhu, 28, resigned voluntarily and that they replaced his diplomatic passport with an ordinary one after his marriage to Riccardi last year in Beijing. The second passport was confiscated after he wrote a letter to the United Nations that the Chinese contend was scandalous.
